Abstract
For psychologist, substance-use researcher, lecturer, and popular science podcaster and author Suzanne Gage, studying the novel Regeneration for her English A-Level influenced her career path. Set in a hospital during World War 1, the book deals with shell shock and the links between the physical and mental effects of war. “I found that really fascinating”, she recalls. But, she adds, psychology also appealed simply because “What's more interesting than learning about ourselves, understanding ourselves better?”
