Abstract

One hundred and ten cases of rupture of the uterus were studied at Nowrosjee Wadia Maternity Hospital from 1952 to 1963. Etiology, site of rupture, treatment, maternal morbidity, and mortality are analyzed and discussed. The purpose of this paper is to crystallize the fact that suturing of a tear is far superior to hysterectomy as treatment in the majority of cases. Maternal mortality was much less with suturing than with hysterectomy. This should certainly open a new vista in management of cases of uterine rupture.
