Abstract

The objectives of the present study are to identify and consolidate the critical success factors (CSFs) of sustainable production system (SPS) through a comprehensive literature review and expert opinion, subsequently establish hierarchical relationships among those with the help of interpretive structural modelling (ISM) to propose conceptual model. Seventeen CSFs of SPS were identified through review of the literature and consolidated to 13CSFs with the help of expert opinion by combining similar types. Opinions sought from experts in consumer durable industry was used as input to ISM to establish the corresponding relationships and hierarchy among CSFs of SPS model. Finally, a conceptual hierarchical model of SPS success factors is proposed based on ISM. The study revealed that customer demand and management commitment are the most dominant factors to drive SPS implementation in Indian consumer durable industry with the help of life cycle thinking, innovations in product and processes and efficient operations.
