Abstract

While leadership can be an influential lever for change, unprecedented and unbeknownst change may itself become instrumental in driving the need for a sustainable leadership. The current study is a conceptual research paper that is based on the meta-analysis of the existing studies on sustainable leadership. Broadly, the objective of the study is to explore what is sustainable leadership and what does sustainable leadership mean in education. More specifically, the objective of the study is to correlate the two variables and investigate how does sustainable leadership impact school improvement. The method engaged for this study relies on literature reviews from journal articles, theses proceedings and conferences, books and online content related with the key variables and research objectives. On the basis of the extensive review of the rich empirical data, the current study establishes that sustained leadership is anything but a one man show. In the context of education, school improvement is more holistic under sustained leadership, the key to school success and a harbinger of progressive change. While the current study aimed to establish a comprehensive understanding of the research questions, it is recommended that further research, both empirical and non-empirical must be done in order to uncover more issues related to sustainable leadership and school improvement.
