Abstract

House is one of the very fundamental needs of human being. The increasing cost of construction and material used is going high day by day and keeping the poor’s away from a proper shelter. On the other hand the waste plastic bottles, used for purified drinking water or for other soft drinks and medical purposes, people are using water bottle in house, market as well as in the workplace for drinking of water, after the use of the water bottle its throw as a garbage material and very few bottles are reuse and recycle and creating enormous non degradable garbage in urban and rural areas 47.2% of people are using packed drinking water bottle at work and 33.8% of people are using packed drinking water bottle at home and 23.2% of bottles are disposed anywhere. According to Mercola.com only 10% of the used water bottle is recycled even in the capital city of Addis the recycling rate is not more than 5%. Keeping both facts in mind the present study is an attempt to give a viable solution for the construction of houses which are economic, eco-friendly and purely dependent on the locally available material. This conceptual work put forth the use of empty plastic bottles to use as the brick or cement blocks, which is going to reduce the overall cost of the house and also giving a solution for the enormous garbage produced by these plastic bottles, especially in related to housing development programs particularly in the rural areas. Though they are particularly suitable for the rural settlements yet they could also be efficiently used for the urban poor’s and several constructions like fencing, partition walls etc.
