Abstract

The term ‘BRIC’ was coined in 2001 by the then chairman of Goldman Sachs Asset Management, Jim O'Neill, in his publication Building Better Global Economic BRICS. With the entry of South Africa, it became Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS). The BRICS Forum, an independent international organisation encouraging commercial, political and cultural co-operation between the BRICS nations, was formed in 2011. Since then, many cross-cutting issues have deliberated the most recent being sustainable development goals (SDGs). It was under the aegis of BRICS Women Parliamentarians'Conference held at Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. The agenda contained 17 goals with 169 targets, covering a broad range of sustainable development issues. The article provides a critical narrative of the meeting and issues of importance that were resolved.
