Sustainable Construction Methods and Processes

Abstract

While most of the sustainable decisions on green building development are made during the project planning and design stages, the employed construction methods and processes also play an important role in reducing buildings’ environmental impacts during and beyond the construction stage. This article describes sustainable (also referred to as “green”) construction methods and processes that can be adopted to meet the requirements of green building rating systems while improving the sustainability of the construction industry. Although the discussions and examples in this article are centered on the practices in the United States (U.S.), they are generally applicable to other countries and regions as well.
