Abstract

Purpose: To Identify and catalog the sustainable practices adopted in the Amazon Region. Sustainable development in the Amazon region is fundamental for the balance between human presence and the preservation of nature. Every productive chain that involves Amazon needs to avoid the degradation of the region. Theoretical framework: The theoretical bases that supported the research were extracted from scientific articles indexed by SCOPUS, from books about sustainability practices in the Amazon. Methods: We perform a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) using the PRISMA protocol. The study covered articles published in SCOPUS from 1989 to 2022. As an inclusion criterion, the articles should cover topics related to sustainable development practices in the Amazon region. The articles were cataloged by journal, study area, economic sector, and sustainability practices. Results and conclusions: Researchers from Latin America, mainly from Brazil, are the ones who are most dedicated to studying sustainable practices and actions in the Amazon region. The studies indicate a connection between production activities and actions that seek and are concerned with environmental sustainability. The researcher's interest in the Brazilian Amazon forest was identified, with emphasis on studies of sustainable forest management, deforestation, the study of rubber, geographic information systems for better monitoring of the region to contribute to planning and management, and the study of environmental degradation driven by the deficiency of government management. Research implications: The sustainable actions and practices characterized in the Amazon examined show what is being studied by the scientific community globally in the Amazon region and in which economic segments the practices of technological sustainability can be observed. Originality/value: Expands understanding of sustainable actions and presents proposals and recommendations for studies up to 2050 in the Amazon.
