Abstract

On September 8th, 2022, the stem cell field lost one of our greatest innovators: Susan L. Solomon, the founding CEO of the New York Stem Cell Foundation (NYSCF), succumbed to her years-long battle with ovarian cancer. With passion, warmth, and generosity, Susan dedicated the last 17 years of her life to establishing NYSCF as both a foundation that supports the next generation of stem cell scientists and as one of the largest dedicated stem cell research institutes in the world. Most people know Susan for raising over $400 million for stem cell research—an outsized contribution, but only the tip of the iceberg of her impact, for it is what she did with this funding that distinguishes her as a visionary in our field.
