Abstract

Multi-wire sawing is one of superior precision slicing method of a hard and brittle materials represented by a silicon ingot and ceramic. Because a slicing tool in multi-wire sawing is extra-fine wire and slurry, kerf loss is small, and there is a little generation of heat when does slice. The main purpose of this study is to make clear the fundamental slicing characteristics of austenitic stainless steels represented by SUS304. The work material used in this study is SUS304, SUS316, quenched S335C and borosilicate glass (Pyrex). The main results obtained are as follows. (1)Precision slicing of austenitic stainless steels is possible. (2)Machinability of austenitic stainless steels is poor in comparison with hard and brittle materials.
