Abstract

The concept of black swan events was popularized by finance professor Nassim Nicholas Taleb [1]. Briefly, a black swan event is an exceptionally rare occurrence with catastrophic consequences that is impossible to predict but is described in hindsight as though it was inevitable and should have been predicted. It is hard to imagine an event that more clearly fits the definition of a black swan than the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
