Abstract

BACKGROUND: The Infection Prevention Department (IP) is responsible for reporting to the local health departments all patients being treated or ruled out for diseases or conditions posing a public health threat to the community. Linked to contaminated foods and suboptimal environmental conditions, Salmonella is one of the most common causes of food poisoning in the United States. Public health law requires prompt reporting of all suspect or confirmed cases.
