Abstract

Background: Ischemia/Reperfusion injury (IRI) remains a major issue in partial liver transplantation. Improved cold storage solutions may lead to reduced IRI and thus increase both graft survival and its function. Custodiol-N (HTK-N), a modified variant of Bretschneider’s Histidine-Tryptophan-Ketoglutarate (HTK) solution protects livers from IRI in various transplantation models. Since its effect in living donor liver transplantation has not been examined, this study was designed to compare its effect with HTK and University of Wisconsin (UW) solution after partial liver transplantation in rats.
