Abstract

Abstract Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) smolts were vaccinated with a single intraperitoneal injection of a trivalent Vibrio bacterin to evaluate the feasibility of increasing survival. Mortalities of the treated and untreated groups for the 4-5 week post-injection period at the hatchery were negligible. There was no significant difference in the rate of adult return of the vaccinated smolts compared to the controls, indicating that immunization did not enhance marine survival.
