Abstract

Background: The diagnosis of malignant ascites or liver metastases during EUS staging of pancreatic cancer signifies inoperable malignancy and implies a poor prognosis. However, there are limited data on expected survival following EUS in these patients. The purpose of this study is to report survival for a large cohort of patients with pancreatic cancer following the diagnosis of malignant ascites or liver metastases by EUS-FNA. Methods: A prospectively updated EUS database was searched from June 1998 and March 2008 for all patients in whom EUS-FNA of the liver or ascitic fluid was performed.
