Abstract
SummaryThe dose-survival characteristics of gastric stem cells has been assayed in the mouse using an in situ cell cloning technique. The value for D0 is 137 rads. The repair capacity as measured in split-dose experiments, is great. Of the total sublethal injury repaired, about two-thirds is completed within the first hour. Regeneration begins promptly after an initial radiation injury, the surviving clonogenic cells doubling every 43 hours. The influence of these dose-survival and regeneration characteristics on the response of mouse stomach to a variety of dose-fractionation regimens was investigated and their relevance to radiotherapy is discussed briefly.
