Abstract

The prognosis of968 patients who were paced for bradyarrhythmias which were not complicated by ventricular tachycardia was assessed by actuarial and proportional hazards analysis. The average age at implant was 67.8 ± 16.2 years and the mean implant time was 41 months (range 1 mo to 18 yrs). The number of patients and the number of years when 50% of patients (pts) could be expected to survive were: 1. complete AV block - 373 pts, 11.8 yrs; 2. second degree AV block - 88 pts, 6.3 yrs; 3. sinus bradyarrhythmia - 301 pts, 8.8 yrs; 4. sinus bradyarrhythmia/atrial fibrillation or supraventricular tachycardia - 172 pts, 7.8 yrs; 5. all indications - 968 pts, 8.9 yrs.
