Abstract Transmigration in Indonesia, the movement of people from Java to the other islands, has been carried on for some years. Only recently has more attention been paid to it in the form of more detailed and organised planning by the Government of Indonesia contracting foreign consulting groups. This paper relates the different phases of this planning procesSl referring in particular to a recent contract.
