Abstract

Although more walking is expected for us to promote health, no research has specifically examined the relationship between lifestyle and walking behavior. This study is intended first to develop a new method to measure walking volume per minute of activity and trip mode using an original survey. Secondly, this study provides a method to estimate the walking volume of any person using the survey result and National Person Trip Survey (NPTS) data. Thirdly, several ideas concerning increased walking volume for health are suggested based on estimation results of respective behavior groups.
