Abstract
The study was conducted to determine internet usage among nursing students in terms of frequency, duration, sites, and reasons/purposes of internet usage, and the level of satisfaction in terms of needs and goal attainment. The descriptive research design was employed in the study utilizing fifty (50) Nursing students as respondents: 10 students in Level I, 15 students in Level II, 10 students in Level III, and 15 students in Level IV. A researcher-made questionnaire was used in the data collection. The respondents were selected through the purposive sampling method. Majority of the respondents used the internet twice in a week; and only few are using the internet daily or more frequently than two times a week. And majority of the respondents’ duration of internet use is 1-2 hours per day only. Most visited website is Google followed by Yahoo, Youtube, and Facebook followed by Wikipedia, Scribd. Most of the respondents answered research work as their primary reason/purpose of using the internet followed by assignments, studies, projects, and other reasons. Majority of the nursing students were moderately satisfied. The respondents rated their satisfaction of need and goal attainment as very satisfied, moderately satisfied, moderately dissatisfied, and very dissatisfied. The level 2 nursing students were more frequent in using the internet twice the frequency of the Level 3 nursing students. Nursing students from all four levels used internet only in a short duration of time (1-2 hours per day). Nursing students frequently visited Facebook as their primary website, when using the internet. Nursing students’ purpose of using the internet is due to research works. Majority of the respondents are moderately satisfied with their internet use of commonly commercial website (not all data are accessible, accurate & valid) with any corresponding reasons/purposes thereof.
