III. 6-CENTIMETER Formaldehyde Absorption at B = -2' from L = 2degrees.0 to L = 4degrees.5 and at B = 121 from L = 358degrees.5 to L = 2degrees.0 Scoville, N. Z. ; Solomon, P. M. Abstract Our initial survey in the 6-cm transition of formaldehyde near the galactic plane (b = -2') has been extended out to 1 = 4?5, and a parallel strip at b = - 12' has been mapped between 1 = 358?5 and 2?0. These new observations suggest that the group of dense, low-positive-velocity clouds does not continue beyond 1 = 2 and that the negative-velocity clouds are part of an arm structure within 300 pc of the galactic center and having a total mass of 106 M0. We also note the existence of molecular gas at 1 = 2?3 with a velocity of 240 km 1 (similar to that of H I in the rotating nuclear disk).
