Abstract
Eighteen grapevine mother plants used by nurseries for propagation in Ukraine were tested for the presence of Grapevine Pinot gris virus (GPGV) and other viruses by simplex and multiplex RT-PCR (reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction). GPGV was found in 10 grapevines, which were also co-infected with Grapevine virus A (GVA) and Grapevine fleck virus (GFkV). We sequenced coding regions of the movement and coat protein and a region of the RdRp domain in twelve isolates. Phylogenetic analyses of the two genes revealed that the Ukrainian GPGV isolates grouped with previously described asymptomatic isolates. This study provides the first detailed survey of GPGV occurrence in Ukraine.
