Abstract

Municipal control surveys have been carried out by the Surveys and Mapping Branch of the Department of Mines and Technical Surveys since 1962. This paper gives some of the benefits that can accrue from such surveys and discusses problems encountered by topographical survey field parties during the establishment of second-order control. Computations, adjustments and coordinate systems are mentioned only briefly as these subjects are well covered in existing papers and textbooks.
