Abstract

A “surprising quantum effect” discovered by Aharonov and coworkers is analyzed within the theory of unsharp quantum measurements which gives rise to a modified formulation and interpretation of this effect. An intuitive explanation is proposed, using the coexistence of noncommuting unsharp observables. Further strange features of unsharp measurements are demonstrated.
