Abstract

The basis for indication and choice of surgical treatment for colorectal cancer patients will be sketched. Here, in principle, the surgical procedure has to be considered as a treatment modality within an extensive treatment plan, which should include after adequate preoperative diagnostics the opportunity of radio- and chemotherapy. Along with an exact staging, the symptoms and the exclusion or detection of a hereditary colorectal tumor disease, but also the age or the emergency situation of the patient play an important role in the definition of an adequate surgical treatment.
