Abstract

Ameloblastomas are benign odontogenic neoplasms of epithelial origin, which present locally aggressive characteristics. A 34-year-old man complained of an increased volume on the posterior face of the mandible, on the left side. Clinical examination revealed an intraoral and extraoral swelling and tooth loss in the posterior region of the left jaw. The imaging studies revealed a radiolucent lesion with irregular, multilocular borders, with buccal and lingual bone cortex expansion, involving dental elements 35 to distal part of 38. The proposed treatment was incisional biopsy for histopathological analysis. On confirming the diagnosis of ameloblastoma, a block resection was performed with a 1.5 cm safety margin, and plaque reconstruction was used. In the 4-month postoperative period, the patient is without painful symptoms and aesthetic and functional complaints. The patient will undergo bone graft reconstruction for posterior rehabilitation with implants 6 months after the procedure.
