Abstract

Background: Gallbladder cancer incidence rates in India, ranging from 11.8 to 17.1/100,000 population are amongst some of the highest reported in the world. With India accounting for roughly 10% of the global gallbladder cancer burden, it is a disease of endemic proportions in the sub-continent. Metastatic gallbladder cancer has a very poor survival, with systemic chemotherapy being the only proven treatment option, that too, with limited benefit. There is however, emerging evidence for curative surgical resection in patients with limited metastases. This study aims to evaluate the benefit of surgical resection in addition to palliative chemotherapy in oligo-metastatic gallbladder cancer (OGBCa).
