Abstract

We frequently inject bacteriostatic sodium chloride USP 0.9% to anesthetize some skin tags, small nevi, and other lesions before a superficial shave biopsy. In this procedure a 30-gauge needle is used. We have found that it causes less pain than lidocaine, 1,2 which is important in small children and anxious adults. It is important to raise a wheal under the lesion to be excised.
