Abstract
Objective To analyze the surgical methods and their efficacy for duodenal gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST). Methods Retrospective analysis were performed on the clinical data from 32 patients with GIST treated in Henan Cancer Hospital from 2006 to 2016. The surgical methods, postoperative complications, postoperative pathology and prognosis of the study were analyzed. Results Among the 32 cases, 14 cases were treated with local duodenal wall resection, 12 cases with local duodenal resection, 5 cases with pancreaticoduodenectomy, and 1 case with combined evisceration. After surgery, 1 patient had pancreatic fistula, and 1 patient had found gastroplegia; however, both of which were cured after conservative treatment. All the pathological margins were clean. Acessing the risk of recurrence, 6 patients were with extremely low risk, 16 patients with low risk, 7 patients with medium risk and 3 patients with high risk. All the 32 patients were followed up till now, and 3 patients were lost to follow-up. Four patients had recurrence and metastasis, all of whom were patients of medium or high recurrence risk. Of them, 2 patients died, and the rest had no recurrence and metastasis. Conclusions The surgical methods for duodenal stromal tumor are varied, depending on the location and size of tumors and general condition of the patients. The complete resection of the tumor is the basis of the operation. Taking imatinib can reduce the recurrence rate of tumor and prolong survival after surgery.
