Abstract

Severe soft tissue infections are infrequent but demand prompt recognition of their clinical signs to insure rapid surgical treatment. Basing a classification of these infections on the type of surgical care required offers the most satisfactory approach. The principles of care of the most frequent and the most lethal infectious entities, as well as the infectious lesion most often causing confusion in diagnosis, are discussed.
