Surgical management of retinal detachment without inducing chorioretinal scars was introduced in 1975 by H. Zauberman who performed surgery on 37 cases of retinal detachment without inducing chorioretinal lesions, and suggested that in phakic patients this procedure is superfluous if vitreous traction is successfully counteracted with scleral buckling procedure.
