The second edition of Dr. Blades' excellent textbook on thoracic surgery is indeed welcome. It consists of multiple contributions from 20 separate authors, each of whom is a highly recognized authority in his field. The new edition not only brings matters up to date in each individual field but places particular emphasis on the recent developments in cardiovascular surgery. There is an entire new chapter describing the recent developments relative to coronary cineangiography and the surgical treatment of coronary heart disease. Detailed descriptions relative to operative procedures are given mainly for the newer operations not included in older textbooks.
