Abstract

Varus and equinovarus are common deformities of the foot in spastic patients. Most often due to inappropriate activity of the tibialis anterior, they respond well to the split anterior tibial tendon transfer (SPLATT). Additional deformities can be present and are best detected by dynamic electromyogram performed during gait. These additional deformities dictate the need for associated procedures to be done in conjunction with the SPLATT. With the proper combination of procedures, many patients have benefited greatly from achieving a plantigrade foot position.
