Abstract

A surgical procedure involving the advancement of the mandible for correction of retrognathia with simultaneous retraction of the mandibular alveolus is described. Indications for treatment and reports of clinical cases are Included. A mandibular subapical osteotomy was used simultaneously with a mandibular sagittal split to correct mandibular alveolar protrusion and extrusion and mandibular retrusion in three patients. A good esthetic and functional result was obtained. Indications for treatment and a description of the combined surgical procedure are given.
