Abstract
The patient with far advanced otosclerosis (a nonmeasurable bone-air gap) may appear superficially to be suffering from profound or total sensorineural impairment. Only by a careful history and examination can a proper diagnosis be made. Stapedectomy has produced satisfactory results in 46 per cent of these cases in our hands.
