Abstract

With the contemporary emphasis on preservation of vital neural and vascular structures during the removal of benign skull base lesions, surgeons are increasingly being challenged to adopt new and reconfigured approaches to the complex problems posed by skull base pathology. This review examines the microsurgical anatomy and approaches to Dorello's canal, a region that is uncommonly invaded by lesions of the petrous apex and clivus. It is this relative infrequency of tumor involvement that mandates surgeons to be intimately familiar with this anatomy.
