Abstract
This is an excellent book on laryngology with special emphasis on laryngeal surgery. Dr Byron Bailey and his coeditor, Dr Hugh Biller, have done a superb job of arranging and editing this multiauthored text. The bibliography is up-to-date, and the illustrations are generally good. The strength of this book is in its updating the serious student of laryngology on the various surgical techniques in benign and malignant disorders. I was especially pleased to see excellent chapters on developmental anatomy by John Tucker and physiology of the larynx by Clarence Sasaki. Cancer surgery and rehabilitation are well covered in ten excellent chapters, which more than adequately deal with indications, techniques, and complications of laryngeal cancer surgery. The controversial issues in reinnervation of the larynx are discussed ably by Harvey Tucker and Roger Crumely. As is common in a book of this type, certain omissions and weaknesses occur.
