Abstract

To the Editor: —I should like to offer the following hot weather suggestion: In one of the hospitals with which I am connected, the practice of applying an ice bag about the neck of the surgeon in the operating room has been found very practicable during the hot weather months. The ice bag should be covered with gauze or a towel to prevent any water of condensation from dropping into the field of operation. The operator is much more comfortable and perspires much less, and his face and neck require much less mopping than under ordinary circumstances.
