Abstract

Prolonged continuous exposure to high concentrations of oxygen can be lethal, due to respiratory failure. However, the cause of this respiratory failure is not known. The present study was designed to investigate the role of pulmonary surfactant in the development of respiratory failure induced by high concentrations of oxygen.
