Abstract

The paper describes an ellipticity study of surfaces formed by solid and liquid octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (OMCTS), whose large spherical molecules interact via dispersion forces alone. The crystal-vapor interface shows no premelting behavior. There appears to be a small density deficit at the crystal-liquid interface. The crystal does not wet silicon but does wet mica. The evolution of gas bubbles during crystal growth is consistent with the above nonwetting behavior
