Abstract
A theoretical investigation is made into the propagation of small-amplitude waves across the free surface of an elastic medium, whose strain-energy function is of Mooney form. The medium is taken to be semi-infinite in extent, and to be subjected to a large primary extension (or compression) in a direction lying in the free surface. The dispersion equation is derived and the general nature of its solutions is explored. Detailed numerical results are given for certain special cases.
