Abstract

Surface wave propagation is considered in a half-infinite inhomogeneous elastic media composed of the array of parallel solid cylinders embedded in an elastic isotropic background. A simple method is proposed for the estimation of the first full band gap in two-dimensional periodic compounds. The first full band gap width for surface waves of Rayleigh type is calculated by the presented method for Ni/Al composite.
