Abstract

Results of the measurement of the monolayer surface viscosities of a series of n-long-chain alcohols CH 3(CH 2) n−2 CH 2OH or C n OH and alkoxy ethanols C n OC 2H 4OH ( n = 14, 16, 18, 20) at 25°C. at the liquid condensed-solid transition pressure at a number of shear rates are reported. All the monomolecular films exhibit non-Newtonian character. The extrapolated values of viscosity at zero shear rate and infinite shear rate have been taken for calculating the free energies of activation for viscous flow and relaxation times.
