Abstract

AbstractPoly[(1H,1H,2H,2H‐heptadecafluorodecyl)methylsiloxane] (PHDFDMS) was synthesized and the solid surface tension of its cross‐linked films was obtained from water, methylene iodide and various alkanes contact angle data. The value obtained from the Owens and Wendt geometric mean approach using water and methylene iodide data is 7,0 mN/m, the lowest value yet reported for a preformed fluorosilicone polymer. Surface tension values obtained from alkane contact angle data are higher, for example, the Zisman critical surface tension of wetting is 14,9 mN/m. These values fit the trends of other similar fluorinated polymers with the exception of a previous report that PHDFDMS has an anomalously high surface tension.
