Abstract

The surface tension of pure molten RbCl and CsCl as well as of their binary molten mixtures with AgCl has been measured, and its dependence on temperature and composition has been studied. A method of detachment of a platinum pin from the melt surface was used. The isotherms of surface tension for AgCl + NaCl, AgCl + KCl, AgCl + RbCl, and AgCl + CsCl are discussed. Deviations from linearity have been shown to increase in the sequence Na < K < Rb < Cs. The enrichment factor as well as surface mole fractions have been calculated on the basis of Eberhart's equation which has been shown to fit all the mixtures studied.
