Abstract

The surface tension of pure carbon tetrachloride, pure silicon tetrachloride, and mixtures of the two was measured using the capillary rise method. The measurements were made at several compositions in the temperature range of +20 to -20 o C. The data for the two pure substances agree with the literature values. The data for the mixtures appear to be accurately described by two different expressions, both based on thermodynamics. These expressions can be used for predicting the surface tension of the CCl 4 -SiCl 4 mixture at any composition in the above temperature range
