Abstract

Spherical copper crystals were grown by solidification of a drop of melt. Immediately thereafter oxygen was adsorbed at 800 °C and 10 −4 Torr for several minutes. Diffraction of 60 kV electrons shows different structures on the main great circles of the crystal sphere. On higher indexed poles, distances of scattering centers were observed, which agree with the distances of substrate rows closely packed with copper atoms.
