Abstract

A phenomenological model for surface segregation in magnetic alloys has been proposed. The magnetic interaction energy has been calculated and found to be small compared to the heat of segregation. The calculated results indicate that the component having higher magnetic moment segregates to the surface. This behaviour becomes more prominent in the presence of a magnetic field.
