Abstract

Surface relief gratings (SRGs) are a widely observed phenomenon in holographic experiments with photoaddressable polymers. This article proposes a model which is able to explain the observed effects in cw experiments. It is based on forces in an electrical field which are caused by the inhomogeneous spatial distribution of the refractive index and the permittivity in the illuminated sample.
