Abstract

Ferric hydroxide gel, manganese hydroxide gel and three Mn 4+ -doped hydrogels were prepared, and seven thermal products were obtained from each of these five samples by heating in air in the temperature range 200 – 1000 °C. The structural properties were studied by means of differential thermal analysis and X-ray techniques and the textural properties were determined from the adsorption of nitrogen data at -196 °C on the thermal products. Doping with ions foreign to those in the host lattice produced significant changes in the structural and textural properties of the parent oxides.
